Common Questions About the Abandoned Vehicle Title Process

How is working with TitleCounsel different from working with other companies?

You will be working with legal counsel admitted to practice in Ohio. Unlike non-lawyer services, we manage the process in-house, from start to finish, and ensure compliance with Ohio law at every step.

What vehicles can you process titles for?

We handle qualifying abandoned-title claims for:

  • Automobiles
  • Trucks
  • Motorcycles
  • ATVs
  • RVs
  • Conversion homes
  • Travel trailers
  • Watercraft
  • Certain heavy equipment (if titled in Ohio)

What information do I need to provide to get started?

To begin the process, you will need to provide:

  • Your business name, address, and contact information
  • Type of business (repair shop, self-storage, or towing/impound)
  • Vehicle details: make, model, year, VIN, odometer reading, and estimated value
  • Date the vehicle was left at your facility
  • Description of storage incurred or work performed
  • Amount of charges owed
  • Any signed agreement with the vehicle owner (if available)
  • Copies of communications with the vehicle owner (if available)

What is the process?

We handle the legal steps required under Ohio’s abandoned vehicle statutes. This typically includes:

  • Conducting title and lienholder searches
  • Drafting and sending required notices to owners and lienholders
  • Tracking certified mail and responses
  • Reviewing documentation and preparing the necessary forms and affidavits
  • Communicating with lienholders when appropriate
  • Coordinating inspections if required
  • Preparing the file for title application or, if necessary, pursuing relief in court

How long does it take?

Timeframes vary depending on records, responses, and county requirements. Most administrative abandoned title matters take 6–10 weeks from start to finish, though court filings may extend this timeline. We provide status updates at each key step.

What does the flat fee cover?

The flat fee covers our legal work in pursuing the abandoned vehicle title process, including notices, record requests, and documentation. Hard costs (certified mail, BMV records, court filing fees) are billed separately at cost.

Do you guarantee I will get a title?

No. Whether a title can be issued depends on records, lienholder responses, and statutory compliance. We cannot guarantee results. Our role is to manage the process lawfully and efficiently.

Can I send multiple vehicles at once?

Yes. Many clients send several vehicles at a time. We offer volume-based flat fees for 2–5, 6–10, and 10+ vehicles in the same month.
